Food Ecosystems Workshop - North Central Region

Presented by Food & Beverage Manitoba and Community Futures

Do you work in the food sector with a business or community-based organization? Do you want to start or grow your food or farm business? Are you interested to learn what supports exist that can help you? Or, are you a service-provider, student or researcher that is interested in working with food, food entrepreneurs or small-scale farmers? Help us understand what you need to be supported in this sector!

Food and Beverage Manitoba and Community Futures want to understand how we can help you. Join us for a food ecosystem focused discussion and asset mapping session on February 2 in Thompson to strengthen North Central's local Food and Agriculture Industry. Individuals and businesses from the surrounding region are all encouraged to attend.

This session will bring together community members, aspiring or established business owners, and industry professionals to identify regional strengths and attributes in your communities that you’d like to grow and preserve. The session is part of a larger community-driven, ecosystem-building project that will help set the trajectory for the Food and Agriculture Industry post-COVID and inform future investments for a more resilient food ecosystem.

In this facilitated session, we hope to support Manitoba’s Food and Agriculture Industry by collaborating to:

  • Create an inventory of all the good things you’d like to grow and maintain within the Food and Agriculture Industry in your region and the Province;
  • Rank the most valued aspects in your community that make this industry enjoyable;
  • Discuss a strategy of how to sustain and grow the assets;
  • Explore what gaps exist and how they can be filled to meet the needs of the industry.

Project outcomes:

  • Inform future investments in infrastructure and services
  • Create connections between regions and communities
  • Support post-COVID recovery
  • Encourage collaboration, diversity and sustainability
  • Create pathways for entrepreneurs and business owners to sustain and grow their business by connecting them to services, equipment, expertise and capital.
