Northern Manitoba Tourism Strategy

For many years Community Futures North Central Development was the coordinating partner for Tourism North Manitoba, a former regional association focused on stimulating the tourism sector north of the 53rd parallel.

In 2017, a strategy process was led by a stakeholder steering committee supported by Travel Manitoba and Tourism North. The result of this process is the 2017-2022 Northern Manitoba Tourism Strategy and updated in 2022.

Strategic priorities identified in this process fell into 5 areas:

1. Organization and Communications
2. Tourism Marketing
3. Tourism Product and Experience Development
4. Infrastructure Enhancement and Development
5. Policy and Regulations

Community Futures North Central Development continues to participate on the Northern Manitoba Advisory Committee which guides tourism efforts in the north.

Snowmobiling - SledMB53

Community Futures North Central Development Continues to play a role in the development of the snowmobile tourism industry in Northern Manitoba.  In 2018, a strategic plan was developed and updated in April 2023.  Several initiatives have been accomplished and CFNCD continues to participate on the Project Management Team.  SledMB53 was developed as the brand name for promoting snowmobile tourism North of the 53rd parallel.

Quest for the Bay

In 2022, Heartland Travel and Tours hosted the inaugural Quest for the Bay.  This was a fully escorted snowmobile tour that commenced at Sasagiu Rapids (near Wabowden) to Churchill.  The tour was filmed by SledTV and the double episodes aired in early 2023.  Watch Episode 1 and Episode 2.
