The Wawanesa & District Community Hall Inc. has long been the heart of community life in Wawanesa, Manitoba, a gathering place for seniors' meetings, community events, and funeral overflow services for families in their time of need. But like many aging facilities in rural Manitoba, the hall has been facing a pressing infrastructure challenge: a sound system that dates back to 1986 and is badly in need of an upgrade. That's why Community Futures Westman is pleased to contribute $3,000 through our Local Initiative Program toward the hall's Sound System Upgrade and Repair project, a community-driven effort with a total estimated cost of $24,000.

A Community Coming Together

What makes this project truly special is how the Wawanesa community has rallied around it. The funding has been pieced together through the collective effort of multiple partners and supporters. Community Futures Westman's $3,000 Local Initiative Program grant adds another piece to this funding puzzle, helping bring the project closer to the finish line.

Why This Project Matters

The existing underground cable connecting the United Church and the Community Hall is no longer functioning, which has eliminated the hall's ability to provide audio and video overflow service during large community funerals. Beyond restoring that capability, the upgraded sound system will benefit the entire community. Seniors who use the hall regularly for meetings and programs will finally have a dedicated sound system on their end of the building, and all community gatherings held at the hall will enjoy significantly improved audio quality. The project, led by contractor Jeff Noel of Cypress Tech, has a total estimate of $28,500 and is expected to be completed by fall 2026.
